Friends of the Monmouth Independence Visitor Center – Logo

The Challenge

The Friends of the MI Visitor Center is a nonprofit organization that operates the local gift shop and supports tourism efforts in the Monmouth-Independence area. Their mission is rooted in promoting community engagement, local culture, and sustainable tourism. For this project, the challenge was to create a logo that reflected regional pride and hospitality while remaining versatile for both merchandise and outreach materials.

The Solution

This logo builds on the Monmouth-Independence Chamber of Commerce (MICC) brand while creating a softer, more welcoming identity for the Friends group. A rounded square replaces the MICC’s circle to introduce a sense of structure while still feeling approachable, and a simplified rectangular portion of the MICC’s illustrated logo is placed inside to maintain visual connection. The typeface matches the MICC’s but uses lowercase for a more casual tone, except “MONMOUTH” and “INDEPENDENCE,” which stay in all caps to reflect the original branding. The shared color palette reinforces the relationship between the two organizations, while the overall look draws inspiration from vintage national park signage to evoke a classic visitor center aesthetic.
